Hotel pickup in Cancun

Do you pick up at my hotel in Cancun?

Yes. If you are staying in Cancun, we pick you up at your hotel anywhere in the city, from the Hotel Zone to downtown. Because most sites are south or west of the city, the day starts early, and most tours add a Cancun pickup fee, which we include in the price we quote for your group.

We send the driver’s name and the vehicle the evening before and wait 15 minutes past the agreed time. For resorts in Playa Mujeres, Costa Mujeres or near the Cancun airport, tell us your hotel and we confirm the time before you book.

How far is everything from Cancun?

Cancun sits at the northern end of the Riviera Maya. The Puerto Morelos coral reef, part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, is 35 minutes south, Playa del Carmen an hour, and the Maya sites inland, Chichén Itzá, Ek Balam and the colonial town of Valladolid, are two to two and a half hours away on the toll road, about the same as Tulum.

  1. Puerto Morelos35 min
  2. Playa del Carmen1 h
  3. Akumal1 h 30
  4. Valladolid2 h
  5. Ek Balam2 h
  6. Tulum ruins2 h
  7. Cobá2 h
  8. Chichén Itzá2 h 30

Driving times by private vehicle from the Cancun Hotel Zone, outside rush hour, on highway 307 south and the 180D toll road west towards Valladolid and Chichén Itzá. Bacalar is about 4 h 30 each way, so from Cancun it only makes sense if you don’t mind a very long day. Plan on an early start for anything beyond Playa del Carmen.

Private or shared: what actually changes

A shared excursion from Cancun costs less and buys you a fixed schedule with 30 to 45 strangers, after the bus has stopped at several hotels in the Hotel Zone. Above six people, the per-person gap closes almost entirely.

Questions about private tours from Cancun

What time do you pick up in Cancun?

Between 6:00 and 7:30, depending on the tour: 6:00 for Tulum, the tour to Chichen Itza and the Valladolid cenotes, 6:30 for Coba, 7:00 for Akumal and Dos Ojos, and 7:30 for the whale shark tour. We confirm the exact time for your hotel when you book.

From $130 to $330 USD per person for two people, depending on the tour. Half-day tours cost $130–$215 and full-day tours $150–$330 per person for two; the price per person drops as your group grows, and most tours add a Cancun pickup fee.

For a first visit, the Chichen Itza and Cenote Saamal tour: Chichen Itza is the most famous Mayan city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, about 2 h 30 from Cancun on the toll road. Families with young children usually prefer the Akumal sea turtles or a cenote tour, and couples who want the beach pick the Tulum ruins with reef snorkeling.

About 2 h 30 to the archaeological site of Chichen Itza and 2 h to the Tulum ruins by private vehicle from the Cancun Hotel Zone, outside rush hour. With a 6:00 pickup you reach either site around opening time, before the tour buses.

Per person, and it drops as your group grows. On the Tulum ruins, reef and cenote tour, for example, it goes from $210 per person for two people to $140 per person for a group of ten. Every tour page lists the full table.

Yes. The vehicle and the guide are only yours, so your private guide can stay longer where you are enjoying it or skip a stop. Changing the tour itself less than 48 hours before carries a 5% fee.

As early as you can for December to April and holiday weeks; the rest of the year a few days is usually enough. Send us your date on WhatsApp and we confirm availability for your group.

Yes. Because the tour is private, the pace follows your children, not a group. Life vests are available, and from Cancun the half-day private tours closest to the city, like Puerto Morelos or Akumal, work best with the very young.

Only to Isla Mujeres, as part of the whale shark tour: after the swim, the boat stops at Playa Norte for lunch. We don’t operate in Cozumel or Holbox. Cozumel is reached by ferry from Playa del Carmen and Holbox by ferry from Chiquilá, and every other tour is on the mainland.
